Kaduna AGILE Inaugurates ECO Pilot Clubs, Partners KDSG On Young Girls’ Empowerment.

Kaduna State Government has reiterated determination to consolidate efforts towards improving secondary education opportunity among young girls by reducing accessibility divides and gaps to learning.

This was made known during the inauguration ceremony of ECO Clubs in ten pilot Kaduna State secondary schools under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project in commemoration of the 2022 World Environment Day, held in Kaduna.

The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project is a World-Bank supported programme aimed at addressing the constraints young girls face in accessing and completing secondary education.

In this regard, seven States of Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Borno, Plateau and Ekiti were selected based on their needs to make schools functional, safe and inclusive to teaching and learning.

The event is coming at a time when Nigerians are expected to take good care of their environments and avoid practices capable of polluting the surroundings that pave way to health and ecological disasters.

Inaugurating the ECO Clubs on behalf of Governor Nasir Ahmad El-rufai, the Commissioner, Budget and Planning Commission, Hajiya Umma Yusuf Aboki said government will not relent in ensuring that every girl child attains its potential in Kaduna State.

She commended the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) for its sustained commitment to achieving this target, calling on the benefitting schools to do the needful.

“AGILE project is very close to our hearts. It is a project that is very close to government’s heart. The girl child education is very-very critical to this administration and I think it should be critical to every administration because the woman is the future of any world. She is the future of the family and she is the future of the economy” she added.

On her part, the Project Coordinator, Kaduna State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), Maryam Sani Dangaji stressed the need to inculcate in young children the culture of respect for the environment through tree planting and similar activities.

“We felt we should mark the World Environmental Day. That’s why we are all here today. The future is green. We need to inculcate that culture of tree planting, respect for the environment, love for the environment. We need to keep our environment clean. Once we are able to get this in the adolescents at this stage, by the time she becomes a mother, the environment will be better for it” she added.

In their goodwill messages, the representatives of various ministries and agencies including the Ministries of Education and Environment, as well as SEMA and KEPA pledged sustained commitment towards collaborating with AGILE to empower young girls to be self-reliant.
