Renowned Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Gumi has visited Maiduguri the State of Borno in another mission to seek solution for lasting peace in the country and to discuss ways of finding solutions to the lingering crisis and insecurity that has displaced and devastated many families across the North particularly the North East.
Reports from DESERT HERALD stated that Gumi was in Maiduguri as a guest discussant at a well attended international symposium on Peace Building organised by Kalthum Foundation For Peace Building Resilience Against Violent Extremism And Terrorism.
Gumi said that the nation to have lasting peace and security and to be able to control escalating instances of recruits into crimes and terrorism, the leadership must ensure justice to the society, ensure accountability in the management of public funds and to use none kinetic approach in managing the crisis.
Various speakers at the symposium including Prof Umar Ibrahim of University of Maiduguri, the Borno CAN Chairman, Mohammed Nada, representatives of Gov Babagana Umara Zulum, the army and the DSS all agreed that the use of fire power mostly being canvassed by the federal government cannot end terrorism or crimes associated with banditry and kidnappings.
Sheikh Gumi lamented that the leadership virtually at all levels are not interested in finding solution to the crisis or to even listen to advises that will lead to ending several challenges of insecurity but can waste time and resources to attend to weddings and other needless engagements that are not in the interest of the masses.
The scholar also visit His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Umar Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi at his palace in Maiduguri. The Shehu of Borno have welcome Sheikh Gumi and the Publisher of Desert Herald, Mal Tukur Mamu.
The Royal Father told Sheikh Gumi that through prayers and efforts of federal and state authorities peace has been restored in many parts of the state and that most of the IDPs have now been resettled and are back to their various communities.
The Shehu thank Sheikh Gumi and Mal Tukur Mamu for the visit and gave each of them royal gifts.
Earlier on Sunday, Sheikh Gumi has also visited the historic and famous El-Kanemi College of Islamic Theology where he met orphans at a special center contributed by the founder of the College, Dr Areef Zaberdeen.
The children numbering over 200 are victims of the Boko Haram violence. They all lost both parents.
The El-Kanemi College Foundation as inspected by Sheikh Gumi have provided accommodation, feeding, clothes, Islamic and western education for all the orphans.
In addition to that, the orphans were provided with recreational facilities and are being trained on entrepreneurship to be able to be self reliant.
Gumi has commended the Director of the College, Dr Muhammad Sani for his commitment and sacrifice in building the College to its status and his interest in providing quality education to the orphans.
