Morocco, Sokoto Partnership Judicious, Astute

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has described the several business collaborations between his state and Morocco as both strategic and wise.

Governor Tambuwal made the assertion on Wednesday while declaring open the first edition of the Nigeria-Morocco Crafts Exhibition jointly organised by Morocco and  Sokoto Chambers of Commerce, held in Abuja,.

The event, a return leg of the one held at Morocco in April this year, is a platform for exchange of ideas on craftsmanship and culture.

Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce and Trade Development,  Bashir Gidado Jegawa, Governor Tambuwal who was the special guest of honor at the event, said already one of such economic diplomacy: the construction of the $13 million fertilizer blending plant nearing completion in the state capital, is yielding fruit.

Governor Tambuwal who also noted that Nigeria in general; and, Sokoto State in particular, share a lot in common with the Maghreb country, especially religious and cultural beliefs, emphasized that Sokoto Caliphate was founded on both scholarship and economic foundations.

Going down memory lane, he said since the 18th century,  Sultan Muhammadu Bello established arts and crafts economic hubs in Sokoto.

These centers, he enumerated, had dyeing pits (marina), tanneries (majema), blacksmithing (makera), wood carvings (masassaqa) and leather processing (madunka).

Other industries at the center established by  Sultan Bello, the Governor added, were the traditional textile manufacturing industry, food and beverages outlets (madaka), guild of builders (magina) and butchers (mahauta).

Wooing more investors to the state, Governor Tambuwal said  it is blessed with fertile soil rich for agricultural production; in addition to a rich endowment of  huge deposits of grade A solid minerals.

He appealed to potential investors to take advantage of the robust package of incentives which the State provides, such as:  land, Infrastructure, local tax holidays among many others.
