An appealed has been made to the Kaduna state government to look into the possibility of creating a ministry of cooperatives to increase areas of revenue generation in the state.
The president Kaduna federation of workers cooperatives, Mr. Abel Adams, made the call during the celebration of the international cooperative day in Kaduna.
Mr. Abel Adams noted that if the ministry is created it would enable small scale business owners have direct access to grants provided by government to alleviate poverty.
The president said government intervention has encouraged members to partake in different economic activities which helped in reducing idleness among people necessitating the need for the establishment of the ministry.
Mr. Abel noted that encouraging the general public especially workers to register with cooperative organizations would better their lives after retirement considering this year's theme of the day "cooperative Builds a better future for all.
In a paper presentation at the event, one of the leaders of the cooperative’s federation, Mr. Paul Baba, noted that cooperatives bring people together in a democratic and equal way, and appealed to the government at all levels, to focus attention in that direction to enable them succeed in all sectors of the economy.
Mr. Paul said as the Kaduna state government is yearning for economic empowerment for its citizens, the cooperatives are assisting it in accomplishing the commitment hence the need for government collaboration with them.
