The Kaduna state house assembly set to review laws on care givers to address issues of abuse and human right violations in the state.
Member representing KAURU/Chawai constituency at the Kaduna state house assembly , Hon. Haruna Barnabas made this know to newsmen in Kaduna during a care workers summit organized by the transparency and accountability in totality initiative in Kaduna.
The member who is also the chairman house committee on health, stressed the need for employers of these care workers to ask the important questions of whether these care workers are adequately catered for after delivering their services. He noted that these care workers are equally humans who also deserve to be taken care of.
In the same vein, the member representing Zaria constituency and chairman house committee on education , Bar. Isma'il Mahmud says the house is working towards enacting law that will mandate employers of caregivers to give them the necessary support as members of our society, he applauds the organizers for organizibg such a wonderful event.
Explaining the aim of the summit, the team lead of transparency and accountability in totality, Halliru Ahmad Khalifa says the aim of the summit is to raise awareness about critical contributions of unpaid and underpaid care workers and to advocate for policies and legal frameworks that support care workers welfare including fair compensation.
He further stated that, there is need to foster collaboration among government agencies, civil society organizations and care workers to address caregiving challenges.
The head of program and partnership, transparency and accountability in totality Musa Suleiman further stated that the summit will serve as a wake up call for government and other relevant stakeholders to key into improving the welfarism of care workers in Kaduna.
One of the participants who is also a care worker Haulatu Kamilu shared her experiences as a care worker, noting that she is into care works because she has no choice but to take job so as to Carter for her young children who lost their father at an early age.
The summit drawn participants from government parastatals, traditional rulers, lawmakers, civil society organizations as well as human right groups.
