More than 900 Ukrainian troops sends to prison in Russia

Over 900 Ukrainian soldiers trapped in a steel factory are being held in a prison in a Russian-controlled area, according to Russia.

Ukraine has ordered troops to surrender as part of an agreement reached by both sides to save their lives.

Reports say there has been weeks of water and food shortages in the Mariupol factory.

Russia's Defense Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday that 959 Ukrainian surrendered soldiers had been taken to Olenivka prison in the Donetsk region.

AFP said the Ukrainian government says it hopes to exchange prisoners "to repatriate Ukrainian heroes as soon as possible,"
