The Senegalese president has backed a national player who refuses to wear a PSG shirt with a gay logo

Senegalese President Macky Sall has expressed support for Paris Saint-Germain and Senegal international Idrissa Gueye over reports that the footballer has refused to wear a gay and lesbian shirt.

Athletes in France over the weekend wore a raincoat to show their support for lesbian and gay rights activists, according to France 24.

PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino has been quoted as saying that "some personal reasons" have prevented some players from appearing in public.

The report drew criticism from Gueye, who is a Muslim. He said nothing about the report.

In a Twitter message, Senegalese President Macky Sall said  the player's religion should be respected.
