In a noteworthy development, Prince Paul Ikonne, the Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), has called upon stakeholders to mirror the agricultural initiatives spearheaded by Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum. Ikonne emphasized that these efforts align with President Tinubu's agricultural agenda for enhancing food security in the nation.
During the inauguration of NALDA projects in Jere Local Government Area, Central Borno, on Thursday, Mr. Ikonne expressed his admiration for Governor Zulum's unwavering commitment to revitalizing agriculture. He urged stakeholders to swiftly adopt Borno's methods, which include unconditional land donation and total commitment, highlighting them as integral to the President's mission and mindset.
In a statement, Ikonne remarked, "This is the mission and mindset of the President, and you are worthy of our commendation, Mr. Governor."
Acknowledging Governor Zulum's pivotal role, Ikonne conveyed gratitude for the support rendered to NALDA. He affirmed a steadfast commitment to maintaining a collaborative partnership with the Government of Borno State, citing Borno's inherent potential to drive food production and achieve national food security.
Governor Zulum, after inaugurating NALDA's rural housing scheme, commended Ikonne for selecting Borno as the ground for executing projects that contribute to the economic development of the state. He praised the Executive Secretary's initiatives aimed at creating employment and livelihood opportunities for the people.
The rural housing scheme, a flagship initiative, provided 120 housing units and livelihood support to beneficiaries affected by insurgency. Each household received a house, mattresses, household materials, 2 she-goats, and a buck.
During the event, Borno State Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Engr. Bawu Musami, urged Governor Zulum to consider implementing a drip irrigation system for efficient water management in farming. Musami also urged beneficiaries to maximize the facilities to enhance personal and familial development, thereby contributing to the state's overall economic growth.
