The United Nations (UN) has reiterated its commitment to supporting the Borno State Government in its ongoing efforts to restore and rebuild areas affected by over a decade of destruction caused by Boko Haram insurgents.

This affirmation was made by the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohammed Mustapha Malik Fall, who is also the Assistant Secretary General of the UN, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Maiduguri.

Mr. Fall acknowledged the significant progress achieved by Borno State in fostering peace and development within the communities affected by the crisis. While recognizing existing challenges, he commended Governor Zulum for his leadership in improving the lives of Borno's residents.

In his statement, Mr. Fall emphasized the UN's commitment to supporting the state's restoration journey. He assured Governor Zulum that the entire UN system is aligned to contribute to the development goals of Borno State.

Mr. Fall pledged full support for any initiative undertaken by the governor and his administration to enhance the well-being of the people.

Governor Zulum expressed gratitude for Mr. Fall's visit and highlighted the UN official's previous contributions to Borno's development during his tenure as UNICEF's country representative from 2016 to 2019.

The governor reiterated his administration's commitment to resettling internally displaced persons (IDPs) in a dignified manner, fulfilling a promise made during the campaign.

Governor Zulum assured the UN of his dedication to collaborating closely, ensuring that both humanitarian and developmental services are concurrently provided for the people of Borno State.

The visit and discussions underscore the collaborative efforts between Borno State and the UN in addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by the insurgency and working towards sustained development in the region.
