Governor Bago declares Niger State youths will not join August 1-10 protest

Umar Bago

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, announced that the state's youths will not join the nationwide protest against hunger and economic difficulties scheduled from August 1 to 10.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Minna, Bago emphasized the peaceful nature of Niger youths and urged for dialogue instead of agitation.

To mitigate hardship, he revealed plans to release 50,000 metric tonnes of food at a 50% subsidy and reduce food prices by 90% by year-end.

Local leaders, including the Etsu Nupe and the state CAN chairman, supported the governor's stance and advised youths to avoid the protest, highlighting the importance of education and local government performance improvement.
