Kaduna State Government trains Teachers on Pupils Literacy
In a bid to improve learning among pupils in Kaduna state, the Kaduna state universal Basic Education Board has launched a capacity building workshop for teachers in nine local governments in the state.
The workshop, called TaRL, which translate to Teaching at The Right level is a foundational literacy and numeracy teaching methodology that helps pupils learn how to read and write with ease. It classified the pupils according to level of their literacy and numeracy understanding such as alphabet identification, words formation and reading of phrases or sentences.
It could be recalled that in the year 2022, UNICEF provided funding to support Kaduna SUBEB to implement the program in Ikara Local Government and later expanded to Kaduna South and Jaba local governments respectively.
During the training, the Kaduna SUBEB acting chairman, MubaraK Muhammad said the training becomes imperative owning to the literacy gap among pupils in primary schools who could neither read nor write across the state.
He further stated that the program was approved in November last year but was not carried out due to one reason or the other.
The acting chairman further called on the teachers to leverage this opportunity to enhance their capacity to teach the pupils in the state, thanking Gov. Uba Sani for approving the said program.
Speaking shortly after the program, the education secretary of Kaduna North local government, Haj. Fatima Sani one minute described the training as important and promised to step it down to other teachers in the local government.While speaking on welfare of teachers in the state, the acting chairman promised to work with the state government to improve the welfare of teachers in order to enhance their productivity.
The training program is currently ongoing in six local governments of IGABI, Kaduna North, Zaria, LERE, Sanga and Jema'a.
