Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State oversaw the distribution of N100 million in cash and wrappers to vulnerable women and widows in Damasak, the headquarters of Mobar Local Government Council, on Tuesday. More than 20,000 women, including housewives, widows, and those from internally displaced camps, benefited from the distribution, receiving N5,000 in cash and one wrapper each.
Continuing efforts to support vulnerable communities and internally displaced persons in Damasak, Governor Zulum highlighted the distribution of non-food items to the aforementioned women.
In addition, during an interaction with teachers from Zanna Umarti Primary School and Government Secondary School in Damasak, Governor Zulum addressed issues facing the schools, including teacher welfare. He approved 10 units of two-bedroom bungalow houses to accommodate teachers posted from elsewhere who are not residents of Damasak. Each of the over 100 teachers in the two schools received cash support of N50,000 during the governor's visit.
Governor Zulum extended assistance to 3,847 returnee households that were previously in the Republic of Niger, providing food items, consumables, and temporary shelters. Each household head received N50,000 in cash, qualifying them for additional food support from the government, along with mats and blankets. Assessing the conditions of those who returned from Niger, Governor Zulum expressed the need to provide relief, including essential items such as blankets, mats, food, and non-food items, given the challenges faced by the returnees.
