Honourable Mahmud LawaI Isma'ila, the Member Representing Zaria City Constituency and Chairman of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Committee on Education, announced that the Kaduna state government has designated 25% of its 2024 Appropriation Budget to the Education Sector.
Speaking at the commissioning of three classrooms at the Staff School of the National Open University in Kaduna, the Chairman of the Education Committee emphasized the government's commitment to prioritizing the education sector.
He highlighted that education is fundamental to meaningful development and assured that the government will continue to give it paramount attention.
Honourable Mahmud LawaI stated that since assuming office, the Kaduna State Governor has not only reduced school fees but has also constructed additional classrooms across the state.
Underlining the significance of education, he noted that, apart from security, the Governor regards education as a top priority.
The committee chairman stressed that education is a collective responsibility requiring the concerted efforts of all. He urged others to emulate the government's gesture by supporting the initiative through building more schools across the state.
In addition to Honourable Mahmud LawaI, Professor Isaac Sammani Butswat, representing the Vice-Chancellor Olufemi Peters, pointed out the necessity of adding more classrooms to the Staff School's primary section.
He expressed hope that the new classrooms, commissioned as part of the National Open University's budget, will provide a conducive learning environment for pupils.
Dr. Aminu Umar, the Director of the Centre for Human Resources Development (CHRD), highlighted that the three classrooms were built by the National Open University for the Staff School without any financial contribution from the Kaduna state government or individuals.
He reiterated the school's commitment to teaching science-based subjects and modern technologies.
Dr. Umar took a moment to express condolences to the Kaduna state government regarding the tragic incident of the abduction of primary school pupils in Kuriga.
He condemned the deliberate efforts to hinder education in Northern Nigeria and called on security agencies to intensify their efforts to ensure the safe return of the children.
The event concluded with the official commissioning of the newly constructed classrooms.
